Best downpipe back system,,,,

Howdo all, I bought a 96 F-350 4x/CC/7.3/ZF 5sp it has 85k on it, and the previous owner had a BD exhaust brake and a GearVendors OD put on and also a 70 hp chip and a new down pipe. He however, didn't change the REST of the exhaust,,, so I am looking to remove the cat and everything else from the downpipe back. Any suggestions?!?!? I have straight-piped my Excursion w/the 7.3, am I looking at about the same note coming out the end?!! I love the sound of my Ex,,,,
I called DPP and they only have the whole system with downpipes, I don't need another downpipe... does anyone make a bolt on from right in front of the cat back?!?!

Thanks

Joe

Can't think of any off the top of my head... I made my own dual side exit exhaust completely straight piped. It should sound about the same as your Ex but maybe a little louder in the cab.

I'm sure someone will chime in here soon. Good luck with the truck.

I went with magnaflow. they have a kit going from the DP.

It soundes good, a deep rumble instead of the turbo sound. The kit came with an extra 3-4' piece of 4" in case you have an extended or crew cab. I ended up swapping out the muffler with the 4" extension for a straigt thru sound.

...and I just re-read that you have CC so this wouldn't work in your case

Well, for now I just straight-piped it all the way out!!! I love it, almost sounds better than my Excursion, maybe because the pipe is longer,,, glad I did it!! And I do notice a slight difference going up the hills,,, not a huge amount, but definatly noticable!

Yep. That's right nothing but pipe. You'll be surprised how quiet is is. It's not like a straight pipes on a gasser. The turbo does a great job muffling the exhaust sound.

You might notice that the turbo spools a little quicker and you'll hear the turbo more. Maybe feel a slight power gain.

a muffler shop is more than likely going to make you use the cat and a muffler. Do it yourself and do it any way you like.

Most muffler shops won't carry 4 inch pipe. Probably need to order it online.
store.airflo.com has lots of pipe including some stuff for powerstrokes like muffler deletes and such.

Like what brown falcon said. It seems to allow the turbo to spool quicker. I'm sure there's some gain, but the sound is what your really going to notice.

I would seriously consider doing this yourself. A muffler shop will charge a lot for simply running pipe. And like what others have said, they may not do it at all if u want the cat removed.

The best and cheapest way to do it would be buy the pipe and any adapters/elbows you need, mock it up on the truck and either mark it or tack it in place, and then have someone at a exhaust shop or a buddy who's good at welding actually weld it all.
