Hey guys I'm thinking about upgrading my stereo, I don't want to go to crazy just a good CD player and speakers.
My main question is how big of job is it to put a new speaker in the dash? How does it work do you go under the dash or does it come apart somehow?
Also do you guys think two 6.5's and one 6x9 will provide a decent amount of bass without a sub? If it helps I listen to almost every genre with emphasis on Classic Rock, Heavy Metal, and Country.
I wouldn't mess with One 6x9 at all. If ya think that would work I would run a 6.5 component system with a small amp. Keep the tweets fairly low on the door or they'll over power everything.
Other way would be to go with 6.5 two or three ways in the door running off the deck and a decent sub behind the seat if ya want more base.
Yep when i did my stero i put two speakers in the doors and 2 in the back. I just made boxes for my speakers in the back and it works out just fine! i wouldnt put any speakers in the dash.
if you want good sound out of your truck add a small sub depending on what you like 2-10's would be fine or 1-12 with a good amp. to save a little money check out wal-mart for the whole system....
I like bass, but not the light dimming, mirror shaking kind of bass. I think a subwoofer might be more bass than I want. My Grand AM is stock except for the CD player, and it thumps plenty hard enough for me, and I don't think it has any subs. I'm thinking 3 big speakers may be enough for a single cab truck, but I don't know for sure.
well if you don't won't a whole lot of bass just get a bazka tube( i know i misspelled that). a 6 inch powered tube will do the job and won't take up much space!
If you still want to remove the in dash speaker, then you'll need to remove the dash pad. Not a big deal just a few screws holds in it place. The speaker is secured with 4 screws. The two closest to the windshield can be a bit tricky given the little clearance - I used a 90 degree screw driver to take them out.
If you just want a basic radio, i would recomend putting door speakers in(6.5" IIRC) and LMC sells A dual coil speaker for the dash one. The dash pad comes off with 13 screws then the pad lifts right off. Then the dash speaker is right there
