Hey guys is it possible to put a factory 06 factory electronic brake controller in a 04 350 super duty?If so has anyone done and possibly have pics or w write up.Thanks Ryan.
I have read about it being done on 05 and up, requires new master cylinder, reflashing/replaceing ECM. uses brake, trans, speed input to determine trailer braking.
No, it will not integrate into the truck's computer. While it will function, it won't have the features that make it work so well in the '05 and newer trucks. The '04 computer won't work with it.
I addition to the obvious PCM problem that Mark mentioned, it won't fit a hole in the dash of an '04.
You could cut a hole and fabricate something I guess. But you could do that with something like a Prodigy too, and end up with a controller that works just as well as the Ford IBC. The whole point would be cosmetics.
I don't think the unit itself does, but it is far more integrated into the operation of the truck than any add on controller. ABS, acceleration, deceleration, etc I'm sure are all programmed in to affect how the TBC works the trailer brakes.
Don't get me wrong, I like the Ford IBC a lot. It does integrate with the truck ABS and that's a plus. It works more smoothly with the truck brakes than anything I've ever seen.
My Prodigy also did everthing I needed and worked flawlessly, just not quite as smooth. Having used both, I would not spend $400-$600 to retro-fit the Ford IBC in an '05 or later truck that didn't already have it, and I definitely would not cut up the dash in an '04 or earlier to do it either.
In retrospect, I should not have said the Prodigy "works just as well as the Ford IBC". But it sure as heck works good enough.
A point against the Ford IBC is that it is very finicky about brake connections, water in the plug, etc. We get a lot of posts about the IBC giving faults. Almost never hear of a Prodigy failing.
