Transmission Problems Lead to Starting Problems??
My shift collar broke (thanks ND) on my 75 f-150. When this happened I turned the engine off and manually shifted the vehicle into neutral so I could maneuver it into a parking spot. After wards, I manually shifted the vehicle into park. Both times I shifted the vehicle by grabbing the linkage near the rag-joint and pulling towards me (once for neutral, two more times for park).
Now, when I try to start the truck nothing happens. It's like it's stuck in gear. The battery is fine, all my fuses are fine. When the key is turned the brake light comes on, but the engine won't turn.
Could this happen because the transmission is not fully engaged in park? If so, shouldn't I be able to put the vehicle in neutral and start the engine? I have tried this and it doesn't work, same issue.
Could I have dislocated something when I manually shifted the gears?
I am at a lost as to why it won't start, any thoughts are greatly appreciated.
Thanks
The earlier trucks pre 77 have the neutral safety switch is on the column near the firewall. It's probably slightly out of whack since the column isn't working.
The 78/79 trucks the NSS is on the transmission, which I would assume should be working properly since you can move the lever rod.

If the engine turns over I would suspect a problem with the neutral start switch. Its located under the dash on top of the steering coulmn. It could be out of adjustment or the pin that actuates it could be causing a problem.
