I am just trying to play all my cards right. If I do a 6" lift I really want to run 37" tires but I don't want to ruin my tranny I have the 6.0 and would 37" be hard on my tranny? and would I be able to tow a 30ft. camper? also would I have to re do my gears and what is the average cost for doing this? or would it just be safer to run the 35" tires?
Not sure on tranny problems but I run 35's with a 2-3" lift... 37's will be fine with 6". Worst case, you may have to heat and bend the inner fender a bit for rub but I doubt it.
I also have a 6" lift and run 37's. The shop shaved off just a little bit of the lower front bumper / air dam. I still get a little rub at full lock, but nothing to worry about.
I tow a 32' travel trailer and have had no problems with the transmission. It did obviously affect the RPMs, but with my DP Tuner, I've got enough horsepower and torque to drive comfortably.
hey xcamp what 6" lift do you have and how wide are your tires? did you have to extend anything driveshaft, brake lines etc. do you have any pics? also I have the edge juice platnium so if I put it in tow mode you think I would be ok?
I had 35's on my Ex with 4 inch rancho lift. now running 255/85r16's. (an unusual size but I like tall narrow tires) they also ride much better than the BFGs i had prior to that. I have 16x8 rims but had to weld a bit of metal onto the steering stop as the edge of the tires would rub on the springs at full lock. I was able to grind off a whole lot of metal off the stops now and get tighter turning radius. 37's will fit with a 6" lift. Though I bet those folks that responded above have not done any serious off roading and got the steering at full lock and full flex... 37"s will rub unless you have them offset more so they run futher out and you have trimmed/modded the fender skirts...
consider a transgo shift kit for the tranny (temp gauge too if it doesnt have one).... it will be fine as long as you are sensible when towing....
I've got a Skyjacker lift, all springs, no blocks. 20" (by 10") KMC XD Rockstars with Terra Grapplers, 355-60-20 (basically 37" x 13.5"). I did not have any modifications to the driveline or brakelines. I did install a dual steering stabilizer which helps keep it straight. Another mod are Airlift 5000 rear bags with a 6" lift.
My DP Tuner has 2 tow mode, 60 and 80 hp, and both do a great job in providing extra power - it drives great (32' dutchmen, 9,000+ pound trailer).
I do not do any serious off-roading, but I'm sure there would additional rubbing if I did. I've got lots of pictures that I can send you, but I haven't posted enough on this forum to post pics yet.
the transmission should be fine without the re-gear but watch out for high EGTs on the uphills especially if you run a chip or tuner. My EGTs run high when towing because I have not re-geared with my 37s. I get a driveline vibration at around 65 mph but it is not bad.
Just posted some pics of my new tires here for comparison. if you go to my gallery you can see what it looked like with 315/75r16's which are equal to 35's on a 4 inch lift https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...ml#post7092395
