look I know there are a LOT of threads about this but I can't seem to find one that fits my needs.
I have a 1994 Ford F150 XLT 300Inline 4.9L Sixxer followed by a M5OD-R2 with the 4WD Configuration and it seems to be hung up really bad, between 2 gears or what.
It was clanging and jumping before it went out and when you release the clutch it dies out and lurches even while in neutral.
I don't know what could be causing it but I need to find out.
How do I fix this?
Is it fixable without a rebuild and if it does need rebuilt how hard is it.
None of the transmission shops are giving me any prices we could EVER afford.
I really need the help, I'm out of work till this truck is rolling again.
please help.....I could lose my job, I require a pickup t do this.
Thanks to anyone who can give me some insight to this dilemma and how to fix it.
I would guess your tranny is shot, sounds like it may have dropped a bearing and is locked up,I have seen this before.pull your drain plug from the tranny and seehow many pieces fall out.
I'd have to agree with Fred here- if it was "clanging and jumping" and just letting out on the clutch kills the engine, then chances are good that something has bound up or broken internally.
The quickest/cheapest fix is likely just hitting up junkyards and doing a swap. At least then you're up and running if you decide to tear into the tranny and see if the problem is fixable.
One "Hail Mary" - these trannies don't have linkages from the shifter, but it's remotely possible that the shifter is acting up somehow, and engaging two gears at once. Does the shifter action feel unusual? Does it move through the familiar "double-H" pattern as expected?

I will have to check that out when I get it home.
it's stuck 300miles into Nebraska.
I'll post an update.
I'm just thinking replace it.

Lemme guess -- "three on the tree"? Those were notorious for this affliction; I've seen it on Chevys, Dodges and Fords. But AFAIK, all our later OBS trannies are "top-loaders", with shifters that load right into the tranny. That doesn't mean it's impossible for this to happen, just a lot less likely.
Wto I was able to shift mine if I was very deliberate with the h formation that the shifter has tio travel thru the shift,,do not try to cross shift the shifter go from low to neutral and in to second very deliberately drove mine like that for abt a year and very seldom did it loch up...now to unlock it open the hood and grab the shift mecanize and pull up on it I think its the side closes to the engine th arms that go to the tranny is the part you want to pull up on but be careful as it will bite you ....work with each side of the shifter until it releases and just be careful with the next time you shiftit do it slow and deliberate...good luck my friend Terry
there is no external shift linkage on the M5OD transmission, the shifter bolts directly into the top of the trans,it probably would hurt to pull the boot and shifter just to have a look before you deem the tranny to be done.I have seen them break the center out of the shift fork inside the trans, but when that happens you just can't get whatever two gears the fork is broken foe, mine was 1st and 2nd.
Yeah I would pull the top off the trans first and look down inside and see if you can see any loose parts in there you might be able to remove and get rolling again.
I have a late '60's Ford 5000 tractor(different creature entirely) that does something like that about once a year. I have to pull the shift cover off and line everything back up where it's supposed to be, and put it all back together, Neutral is usually second(this has a different shifting pattern), and where the shift nub gets stuck when it comes out of the track, it either tries to engage third or first, so it's putting it into two or more gears. Pull the cover and see, that doesn't cost anything.
well am I bad ,,,I didnt realize you were throwingda gears with the stick on da floor so dat will explain to us dummys why you dont throw the gears from the steering colum,,,sorry dude ,,my bad
