I have a 94 ranger supercab, 4x4, 4.0 engine, manual. and the cruise control all of a sudden stopped working. i have tested everything i could think of. followed steps to testing and everything. my brake lights work. the switches are good. ive tested circuitry. the vacuum relief valve is fine. the servo is operating properly. by one of the ways i was told to test it. i put a diff cruise control amplifier in from a junkyard and the cruise still didnt work. i am completely stomped. can anyone help. if u need more info just let me no. i tested pretty much everthing i could.
I know it sounds crazy but try replacing the wiring harness at the rear bumper for your trailer lights I bet you have a short in it. All tractor supply stores such as Rural King, etc carry them, I think they are around $20. I had the same thing happen to mine and walla that's be it.
Vehicle speed sensor sending bogus information, or intermittent operation? The TPS [throttle position sensor] can also fool the computer if it has dropouts. The ECM will drop out of cruise if it senses the brake pedal switch has closed, the clutch pedal switch has closed, the speed sensor is out of range, power is lost, or if vacuum drops too low.
Does it work at all? As in, engage but immediately drop out? Or is it broken completely.
You might want to check to see if there are any codes that could affect the cruise.

well i went through a lot of tests that the ford service info told me to go through, and it told me to wire the servo a certain way with the engine running and ground it and then it should suck in and it did. i am having a good vss signal. and no pcm codes. or at least my check engine light isnt on. it doesnt drop it, it just does not even set at all.
CRN, all I can say, from 1k miles away, is start over with the testing tree. There must be a killer signal (brake/clutch/door ajar!?!/interior light on) something... that is telling the cruise that it cannot engage. It won't engage below ~30 mph, etc etc etc. Check the trouble tree one more time.
Check grounds, check for loose wires, check for the continuity on the brake switch. I have seen a brake switch on a Taurus that checked good, but didn't work. Never did figure that one out. Brake lights would not come on, yet the switch tested good with the meter.
