Trans temp

Just installed a trans temp gauge in my F350 dually, stock. On normal travel up the road and back (about 30 min.) my gauge read 150*. Is this a normal temp? It seams low to me but what do I know.

Well, I don't have gauges, but from what I have read that sounds normal. And I believe 220* is the temp you want to stay below, but I'm sure someone with more knowledge will chime in with exact numbers, etc. Welcome to FTE.

x2... With 95-100 degree ambient temps, mine would get to 190-195 empty. Now that I have the 6.0L cooler, it barely gets over 140!

Thanks guys. I am installing a trucool in series with my little stock cooler but I wanted to see my temps before and after. I was thinking it ran hotter that that.

Just curious, where did you install the sender? If it's on the driver's side pressure port right above the pan like most of us have it, then yes, sounds normal for temps.

Good point Chris! Temps in the line could actually be quite a bit higher.

...or could be cooler if it's installed in the return line from the coolers to the tranny. Just want to help compare apples to apples.

Thanks Chris. Thats where I installed it. I didn't like the pan mount. I just didn't like it any closer to the ground than necessary. You never know when something is going to jump up and bit your underside!!

Mine is installed in the test port on the driver side and I read 150 under almost any conditions. Takes forever to get to temp. Only gets warmer when sitting in traffic, then goes to 180 maybe 190. Using autometer guages.
