REAL WORLD MPG figures for my 08 f250 supercab 2x4 373'3 with 5000miles
RUNNING INTERSTATE RE-GEN EVERY 270-300 MILES AT 75-80MPH 15.2MPG
RUNNING TOWN AND INTERSTATE 50/50 driving RE-GEN EVERY 70-100 MILES 13.4MPG..
I am not at all happy with re-gen around town every 70-100 miles and it seams like re-gen is shorter but much more often..I love it when you are low on fuel and it goes into re-gen...
I love this truck and the power it has..but next winter when I am spending 50 cents a gal more for fuel and this thing is in re-gen every time I head for a harware store I will be looking at a programer and removing the DPF...
Humm. many complain that the lie-0 meter is way off. Mine has always been within .2/ .3
of hand calculating As above I can pump in 4 or more gallons after the auto shutoff. It is important that the same amount of fuel is pumped in when calculating MPG. We fill to the brim when for measuring MPG. We have no problem with the MPG on this 9K plus truck.
The only vehicles(2008 Focus and 2005 Explorer) I have had with a "lie-o-meter" have been within .5 mpg everytime. I reset it before I leave the gas station. That way it starts at the exact sametime as I wrote down the miles. I have tried waiting just a few miles before I reset it and the margin of error goes up very quickly. Just wondering if everyone is reseting it at fill up. Just my .02.
I reset mine even before I start the engine to pull away from the pump. It's still a bit off.
Doesn't bother me any, though. The only thing those things have really been good for is determining how different conditions affect MPGs, as well as possibly alerting you to a problem before you otherwise would. Cool technology, but like everything, it's not perfect!
FWIW, my wife's '08 Honda CR-V isn't perfect, either...normally 1-2 MPGs off as well.
My lie-o-meter has been almost spot on. I have 6500 miles on 6.4 -08. Huge difference in mpg depending upon speed. 60 - 65 will get me 17.5 at 70-75 drops down to 14.2. Same issue with towing a 15,000# 5th wheel lower speed will gain about 2 mpg.
Here we go again. dt75flh: I tow a 36' fifth wheel trailer, triple axle, GCW very close to 23500 on the scales. It's a heavy load for my 250 and I run long distances. I have never gotten less than 8 MPG hand calculated (as accurate as I can).
I'm not claiming there is anything wrong with your truck or that mine is perfect. I just don't get how things can be so different. Maybe your 4.10 vs. my 3.73?
FYI: I drove 260 miles today, mostly 60 mph on two lane highways. My lie-o-meter stated 19.3, hand calc was 17.05. That's a pretty big difference to me.
Very happy with the numbers though. I went through 1 regen cycle and obviously had no load to speak of, just two guys and the truck.
Just did a 420 MRT mostly highway, keep it under 70 this time and had some weight in the bed. LOM read 16.9, hand cal was 15.5. Did do it on 1 tank of fuel to see if I could (I do this trip couple times a month) Was pleased.
I've been doing som experimenting with my 08 F 250 crew 2 wd. I ran 65 with the cruise on and got just over 20 mpg hand calc'd which was just .5 under the computer. if I get up to 70 it drops to around 16. I'm running 3.73 gears and the truck has just under 3200 miles. I have not had it to the dealer yet for an electronic updates.
Yep! I was pleasantly surprised. You sacrifice some time by only driving 65 but the $$ would be worth it. I forgot to mention that is driving at an altitude between 5000' - 6200' between Cheyenne, WY and Denver, CO. That was the round-trip mileage. The fuel gauge reads at half tank and there is over 260 miles on the trip meter.
My 09 4x2 has been averaging 14, I only have 2800 miles on it and have pulled my camper (around 8000-9000 lbs) one time, on that tank I got 11.2. I use a nice little app for the I phone called gas cubby and it seems to be very accurate. The on board tracker is a tad more friendly with it's numbers. But yes just going down the interstate, with no cruise I can get around 18-20. But alas I didn't buy a truck because of the gas mileage it's just a nice side affect after having a hemi mega cab that got under 8 when towing and averaged 12 when not.
