Talking Remove Interior Windshield Trim

Hey guys!

Well i'm back home and back to tinkering with the truck. So here's my latest question for y'all. Can i REALLY remove the piece of metal trim above the windshied (interior) with just a screwdriver as this post says (about halfway down)?:
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/2...indshield.html

If I CAN do this without buying some special tool, can you give me some more details on how it's done so i don't screw up the trim and then have to cry like a little girl about it?

Here's the piece i'm talking about:

Thanks boys! Oh and did i mention that i MISSED Y'ALL!!!

Grab it and give it a good yank. It is held on by 4 metal clips and it's pretty tight.

BTW: How's the FTE hottie doing? Glad you made it back.

I (I mean we) missed ya!

hahahah! y'all are awesome! you make me laugh AND feel missed!! I'm gonna have to try to live up to your appreciation!

So now stosh can i yank it down toward the dash (best leverage i would think) or try to take it straight back? And do I grab it with a set of pliers or vice grips or what?

I have always used a flat-blade screwdriver to pry one edge of an end and then,
as stosh said, yank it down. It's a little flexible but be careful to not crease it
(though it bends back more or less OK). Go practice in a JY if you want....

Yea those are held in fairly tight, but as said theres just 4 metal bracket peices that hold it on. Work from one side to the other. Ive always just used a screwdriver to get the first one and then i can yank the rest off.

Thanks for asking that question. I need one of these days to repair my headliner & now I don't have to ask.
So I assume all the trim is held on the same where there are no screws.
Thanks,
Craig

speaking of headliners, has anyone put one in where it didnt come original on the truck? What i mean is, as you can see from the photo i dont have a headliner, just a metal roof. I've been thinking about adding a headliner up there for a more finished look. Good idea? Bad idea? Whatta ya think?

I was thinkin about it yesterday since im ripping out all my interior right now. An too me is seems like it will be more of hassle than its worth.

Plus i cant even count how many trucks have their dangum headline hanging down from the glue wearing out.

Em,
If you have that trim in your truck then you probably had a headliner before. The PO might have left it out when he installed the sunroof.
If you do not have any problems with it leaking then you should be able to install another. I had put a sunroof in a 81 flareside that I used to drive. It was nice to remove it and open the back window with the windows down. Closest thing to a convertible.

Not true.

All trucks came with that front trim piece regardless if it had a headliner or not.......

dangit dangit dangit!!

well wouldnt you know it i freakin creased it on the VERY LAST clip! it was coming out perfectly just like y'all said: 4 clips that are really stubborn. started from the edges and worked inward. but damn if i didnt crease it just as i was thinking to myself "whew, that wasnt so bad".

guess i'll have to go fetch one from the wrecking yard.

at least now i'll know how to pull them from there
