1990 ford ranger brake issue

1990 ford ranger parking brake
I have a 1990 ford ranger pickup. When I push the parking brake pedal it will not release by pulling the handle. I don't think it is the cables. Is there an actulator part that I may need to replace? I have never messed with the parking brake as when I park it in my driveway I always just put it in reverse and let it sit. Truck has 190,000 miles on it. I just want to get everything to work on it.
Any advise would be appreciated.

If the parking brake release is a part of the pedal/latch/cable mechanism on the kick panel, then the only fix I know of is a replacement from a boneyard or new OEM.
You can try pressing on the pedal while pulling the lever to see if releasing the pressure inside the mechanism will allow it to work.
