Have you checked the valley for leaks on top? Rear main seals don't usually give problems on the 7.3 PSD. You will usually find the leak coming from above.

If it is the rear main seal its gonna be expensive. The seal is cheap but pulling the tranny isnt. Probably gonna cost ya around $500.00 for them to drop the tranny and replace the seal.

I havent checked the valley above. All I know is it is coming out through the drip hole on the guard between your tranny and motor. How can I see where it is coming from???

Like Roland said check the top on the engine. The valley had a "drain hole" that often leaks to where you are describing. This is often mistaken as a rear main seal leaking.

The seal may be relatively cheap, but for a rear seal it's pretty expensive. It was years ago the last one I changed (which wasn't leaking, but they wanted it done anyway) and I think the seal was over $50 wholesale.

i've never seen one that is actually leaking, it's always something else.

Like said already, get a flashlight and look on top of the engine, in the valley. I'm sure you will see a puddle of oil up there. Then start looking for the leak. Let us know where you see the most oil.

I just had my rear main replaced about 1 month ago when they pulled the tranny to do the T/C seal. The rear main was $48, it wasnt leaking but since I was dropping the tranny whats another $48 and some peace of mind.

Because it's glued on. I wouldn't change one unless it was absolutely necessary. If it was just a seal that popped into place, it wouldn't be a big deal, but it's got a bolt on retainer IIRC and the RTV international uses is pretty tough. I think I about had to jackhammer that stuff off!
