Whoo Hoo! First post in a brand new forum! :7
Just wondering what transfer case gear reduction ratios are. My '81 F-250 has a Borg Warner 1345, but I don't know what the ratio is. I'm thinking it's like 2.3:1, but I'm not sure.
If you know what your transfer case ratio is please post it here, regardless of the make. I think they are probably pretty much the same for full sized trucks.
horse- transfercases are wonderfull things aren't they? One of mine, from the F100, is either in or out of four wheel, with one to one all the time, no low range. I prefer my NP 205's, which have a 1.96 to 1 in low range, I have never been able to hurt one. I'd be interested in knowing what everyone else runs, I've seen lots of advertizements for reduction gears or double T-cases for lower low range. When would you ever need or even want that? Regular low range has always been enough for me so far.How about you. DF
Then my BW xfer case low range is probably around 1.9:1 too. I agree, you really wouldn't need much lower range. I think axle ratio is the only thing that limits the usefulness of low range.
BTW, I used low range to uproot a 15' palm tree. The ground was damp, I hooked my chain near the top of the tree for better leverage, and I put 1,000 pound of sand in the bed for good traction. The hardest part was getting the cut up stumps into the truck. I had to use a come-along and a ramp.
