I use 5w20 mobil 1 in my 5.4. And I have this filter on it right now. The first time I use it. Does this mean I don't have to change my oil for 10k miles? If so that would be great since I put alot of miles on my truck.

Boy Howdy, that sure seems like a lot of miles between oil chances. I know I received a letter from Ford saying the oil change interval on my 6.4 PSD should be at 10,000 miles under normal use....of course they also say the only approved filter is the Motorcraft oil filter....who'd a thought that would have be included...LOL.
But on my V-10 gasser I pretty much limit to 5,000 miles between changes. I figure I can get an oil and filter change at the dealer for $19.95 and that is pretty cheap insurance to keep the engine fresh and clean with the the life blood of a gas motor.
Course, I'm an old guy who was brought up on the 3K oil change theory, and well, I don't adjust to some things too easy.
On the other hand, by running 10K between oil changes would look to be more of a "Think Green" and be kind to the planet idea.
My train of thought is to think green....the green in my wallet. What would it cost to replace or rebuild a motor ahead of it's time due to over extending the life of a few quarts of oil. Plus, I recycle my oil....that is Green Enough for me.

I guess the easiest way to determine if the filter is worth how it is marketed and delivers as advertised. Would be to give it a try but when you change it the first time at or near 10K take an oil sample and send it in for an oil analysis. I'm sure there would be many folks here that would like to know the out come.
I guess running full synthetic oil, double filtration and a lot of highway miles it sould be doable.
I am curious, if you don't mind me asking. As I said earlier, the dealership charges $19.95 for an oil and filter change. It cost me more to do it myself...which I do from time to time. I have never priced going to full synthetic oil....what is a quart of full synthetic going for now?
Thanks

Well your v-10 takes as many quarts as my 5.4 does which is 6. I buy the 5 quarts container of mobile 1 at wal-mart for 22 dollars and then for one quart I believe its 4.50 or so. I hated taking my truck to the dealership cause you have to wait about an hour till they are done with the truck. So spending a little bit more money for better oil and only takes me 10-15 min to do my oil change is worth the difference.

A filter alone is not going to extend drain intervals. A large part of the reasoning behind oil changes are that the anti-wear additives get used up and the parts that absorb contaminates that can't be filtered get used up as well.
I'm sure (based solely on their advertising) you could use that filter if you had a premium oil that had the additive package to enable 10K oil change intervals.

I grew up on the 3K theory, and stick to it on my '77...Havoline 10w-30 oil and a Delco filter.
On the '02 I went by the light that GM gave me. Sometimes I'd go a few thousand past the light always used Havoline 10w-30 oil and a Delco filter.
On my '08 right now I've been going about 9K between changes using Motorcraft oil and filters. Oil doesn't come out too black, no metal, seems to be doing fine. We'll see over the years.

This is a very interesting read on oil filters, I only use Purlator Pure One since reading this.

That guy is a tool. I have use fram on every vehicle I have owned and never had a problem with any engines. My dad has use fram on every vehicles he has owned and never had any engine problems. Hell one of his vehicles was a suburban that had 250k miles on it and all he use was fram.

fram has been proven to be just about the worse filter out there as far as filtration is concerned... if that actually makes a difference to the motor isnt always noticable, I'm sure you could probably bypass the filter al together and still get full life out of some motors, just depends.

I always used fram filters, because I got my oil and filter at the same time at walmart. Not anymore.. I have read time and time again that fram are junk filters, they fall apart inside and let dirty oil and clean mix. I just would rather use a purolator since I know they are top of the line and priced about the same.
