1966 F100. Has a 67 and up style master cylinder. Has no brake light switch. I want to put a 66 style switch on it. DOes anyone has a picture or diagram of how to do this with a master cylinder that the switch doesnt normally work with? Thanks
Brian
you could put a switch on the peddel assembly much easier than tapping into the brake lines. If you have to have the 66 brake light switch i'm sure you can T into the line right where it comes out of the master cyl. sorry, I dont know where to find a brass T
If the pedal end of the rod is still original to the master cylinder, get a factory brake light switch for the '67-'72 style trucks - I am assuming the '67-'72 rod was shortened so that the original pedal end is still there. I think the switch was the same for those years; Number Dummy can help out if that is not correct.
This switch sits over the pedal end of the rod, and is clipped on with a bracket - all Ford.
Once you have the mechanical part of the switch setup so that it works, the wiring is easy.
To wire it up, simply run 2 wires from the '66 female bullet connectors to the switch, and it will light up correctly.
You may need to adjust the switch to get it to work right. Make sure the pedal cannot slip down, turn on the brakes lights in the middle of the night and run the battery down!
brake pedal support brackets were different between 65/66 and 67 and 68 up trucks...65-6 is by itself as is 67 and 68-72

As best as I can tell from looking at the illustrations the 67 and 68/72 stop light switch are mounted differently...both appear to use a switch of the push button type design.
Without having looked at one of these trucks in person thats as best as I can do for info on this.
CS65 reminds me of an important point. In very many many respects, the '67 has one-year only parts.
I would suggest looking at a '68 - '72 in a boneyard for the parts and how to transfer it to your truck's setup
Took a 't' fitting, 1 end has a threaded male end that screws into the end of the MC. There other end has a female thread where the brake line attaches. The other has a female thread that I tapped to the same size and thread count as the pressure switch. I used a bottom tap so I could tap as far down as possible without damaging the other passage ways. Anyhow, not sure if any help, posting pic's. Suggest consider installing switch below pedal assembly, understand safer and more sensitive. Having said that, been using pressure switch for past several years without any problems. If decide to go with the pressure switch, I purchased the 't' fitting from local napa store and although it was several years ago may have saved the receipt and may be able to come up with a part #.
I offer several alternative ideas to the OE brake switch on my site, in addition to a inline fitting you can use to adapt the original pressure switch if you prefer that. http://mongrelmotorsports.homestead.com/f100discs.html
