8 lug differences??
hey there everyone. in recently purchased a set of rims that came off a 05 excursion thinking that both its 8 lug and my 73 f250 8 lug would match right up. well this morning i tried to put them on and they didnt fit!! well it was a rookie mistake not to make sure that both 8 lug patterns would fit. i was under the impresion that the 8 lug only changed sizes between manufactuers.my question is how many different sizes of 8 lug bolt patterns are there among ford trucks?when did they change?and is there any type of adapter that can be used??or is that route worth taking??thanks

I believe they changed after 1997, for Ford at least. Before then all manufacturers 8 lugs were the same. I tried the same trick with my dads stock 8 lugs from an 99 SuperDuty.

As far as I know up until the SD style that ford used the same lug pattern as Dodge did, but now they run metric.
I don't know the exact spacing in MM but I think it is something like 8x200mm. Sucks for sure.
As far an adapter there are a couple of sites apparently if you search google. But they are stupid old. I will search for some more

Ford went to 8x170mm in 99 model year. GM and Dodge still use the old 8x6.5'' pattern but the hub size on the GM is smaller and will not fit over the Dana 60 hub.

So basically a 17in rim from a chevy still wouldn't be big enough to fit over our DANA 60 hub. I always thought the hubs were the same size for floating rear ends anyways but guess the front axles may have different sizes. Never really thought of that.

Try a little searching on the topic. It's been covered LOTS of times and all sorts of info is out there. There is a very recent thread about a guy doing H2 wheels and fixing the hub fitment issue. I have gone over drill and sleeving the wheels before etc.

i almost ran into the same problem when i was gonna buy some wheels from a guy that had them on an 04 ford...luckily i asked on here first and saved myself 600 bucks(they were aftermarket wheels) the thread was titled 8 lug wheel questions i believe if you wanna look at it
