06 f350 shutters when accelerating help!!!!

hello all. i hope someone is able to point me in the right direction here. at any speed the 06 f350 6.0 shutters bad. almost like it is starving for fuel. i have changed the fuel filters 3 times within the past year. each one had a decreasing amount of what looks to be silver paint chips. none of these "paint chips" reached the top filter. which to me would rule out injectors. but i am no expert. i had the same problem with my 01 f250 and my motor home. the 250 problem was solved after i changed the fuel filters. the motor home i changed the fuel pump and that seemed to do it. now with all the history out of the way. is there a sock on the fuel pump that possibly could be plugged up with these paint chips? i think this is where i need to start, dropping the tank and either replacing the fuel pump or cleaning the tank out and cleaning the fuel sock if it has one. the shuttering is pretty bad it feels like it wants to die when i give it gas, but keeps running.

if anyone has had this problem before or can help me with this one you can e mail me or reply here. e mail is..... iseentheknight@aol.com

thanks,
austin

So this is engine related,,as far as you can tell ??
How many miles on the truck?
Does the turbo seem to spool ok,,,How is the Boost gauge acting,,could be a turbo?
Have you checked out/cleaned the EGR ?

yes it acts like it is starving for fuel. im pretty sure its engine related. the truck has about 113000. the turbo seems to spool up just fine. i do know that there is a small turbo leak, but im not concerned with it at this point. i have not checked the egr, but i will since that gives me some kind of possibility to get this resolved. thanks for the info.

Yes, drop your tank and have a look inside. Sounds like maybe someone dumped something in your tank or you got a tank full of contaminated fuel.

okay well looks like that is where i will start. do you know if that fuel pump has a screen or some kind of sock on it? if it doesn't then i would think that the best idea would be go ahead and clean out the fuel tank and replace the pump since i already have everything exposed. the egr is fine, if something was wrong with that wouldn't a code trip immediately?
