NAPA fuel filters

I started this mess a few weeks ago with a post about the price of the NAPA fuel filters. Since then I have learned a few things, and asked more questions. My first fuel filter change was a few weeks ago. I took out the old filters and replaced them with new NAPA gold filters. I noticed that the original larger filter had a white "sock" on it and the new one did not, but I put it in anyway. I have since learned here that the "aquablock" is on the OEM filter. I looked up the NAPA filter on their website and the pic on their site had the sock on it. I went back to the NAPA store and expressed my concern. The counter guy had no clue as to what to do, but did tell me that all NAPA filters meet or exceed OEM specs. He got the manager. She looked at another filter kit- no sock. called another store- same thing. She then called a mechanic friend of hers who told her that the sock was extra protection and not really needed but could be purchased from FORD and slipped over (not true I found out). My main concern with the NAPA filter kit is that the larger filter did not have the Aquablock sock on it, but is it necessary and are they OEM rated ? I have sent 2 e-mails to NAPA with the same question (8 days ago) and have no response. Should I change it out for a ford/racor filter ??

The piece of mind is worth it to me. I would pick up one from your local International dealer for around $35.00 but that is just me.

Used napa gold fuel filter changes until last one and never had a probelm. I can not remember if the sock was on the filters or not.

The only reason I switched was because I now use the International one(part #) because it is much cheaper.

If nothing else it's false-advertising and NAPA needs to immediately stop showing the filter in the ad with the sock on it. I would call them, not email (if you want to press the issue).

When it comes time for my filters to be changed I'm going down to the International dealer.

At my last fuel filter change I used a Wix filter (same as NAPA I think) and it had the aquablock membrane. I ordered another about a month ago with some oil filters as I was getting close to replacing it. I saw the post a week or so ago where Beachbumcook stated the filters were no longer being shipped with the aquablock membrane. Well, I checked mine and no membrane. I'd rather be safe than sorry so I picked up two filter sets at the local International dealer yesterday. The only difference (besides the aquablock) in the filters is that the International filters have a flange on the bottom whereas the Wix filter is flush. I'm guessing (based on Beach's experience) that it will fit ok though. I'll be changing mine this weekend.

The IH filters will fit fine as they are made by Racor (OEM to Ford & IH).

Racor filters fit all model years (2003 - 2006) where as WIX/NAPA have two different filter (part numbers) depending on the year.

SOme older stock that a NAPA dealer or WIX dealer may have will have the Aquablok membrame (is membrane and not a sock)... it is also a special coated material/membrame and not just a "paper filter over the pleats - FYI.

Some NAPA/WIX dealers have old stock of when they purchased Racor, but have since change... and IH dealer is less money for OEM quality.... so why not just buy from IH dealer??

Good luck and enjoy... I am... and so are many others.... I like saving money!!

Jeff,
Thanks for the heads up on this. The filters from the International dealer are cheaper than the discounted Wix filters I purchased online, plus they're the 'right' ones for my truck. Two pluses in my book!

Is there a website where you can order the International ones online? Or do you have to find a local dealer?

Visit your local dealer or do a search for the IH website and there is a dealer locator feature... most will sell and ship with a credit card.

Just remember, you want the fuel filter for the 4.5L motor from IH as their version of the 6.0L uses a different filter set-up.

Do a search for other threads on this topic and you will find IH dealer sites and the part number you need.

Read the link below.

http://www.forddoctorsdts.com/articl...icle-06-03.php

Use Racor/Motorcraft or IH fuel filters only... and never WIX since they do not have the white membrane on the HFCM fuel filter.
