Another tranny flush thread...
1) Drop pan and change internal filter (look at fluid color and any residue in pan to see if any problems are evident?
2) Change the external by-pass tranny filter.
3) Drive for 10,000 miles or so (no real perfect number here).
4) Do the tranny flush and change the by-pass filter again.
I think you will be good to go to get back on a regular service interval of 30,000 miles.
What do you think???
1) Drain and refill (drop pan, change internal filter and refill with fluid).
2) Flush - which is hooking up your tranny to a machine filled with the Mercon SP and when started and worked through the gears, the new fluid is sucked in and the old fluid is pushed out and collected. You now get a 100% fluid exchange where as the drain and refill is only about 1/2 (as 1/2 stays in the convertor).
You always have to ask about the external by-pass filter as not all dealerships change this out as part of any of their servcies and if the technician is not used to working on a 6.0L, he may not even be aware of it.
I always have the external by-pass filter change at every service regardless.
