I have a 2004 Fx4 5.4 that has had the noisey cam phasers since day one. I now have 50,000 miles on it and am wondering if it will eventually cause a major engine failure? My dealer always said they wouldn't fix it because it was "normal." I am looking at trading up, but won't do so until the new motors are available. I am just wondering if my motor will have any major problems before then?
It's in the rumor mill that Ford is going to have a 5.0L engine and a 6.2L engine in the future. The 6.2L engine is supposedly going to be offered in the F150 Raptor and Super Duties only. The 5.0L is going to be offered in the F150. Rumor has it 2011 or 2012 will be the introduction of these engines to the masses. They are also working on Direct Injection turbo engines with smaller displacement for the near future.
For what it is worth I had mine replaced on my 04. The mechanic told me it won't cause damage if it is just the phasers and not something else. Mine was done under warranty.
