Trying to find out the correct color to use on my 1978 F250 4x4 Crew interior (dash, glove box door and ashtray door). The exterior codes for my truck are AV (Gloss Black and Med. Silver Metallic). It has the racetrack trim. The dash for this truck was not Gloss Black, instead more of a dark grey to black color. In searching the internet, I came across the 1978 Ford interior color codes. It lists a Black (Ditzler code=9255) and Black Poly (Ditzler code=32585). Both colors are listed as "Semi-gloss". Question i'm wrestling with is this: should I paint the interiour the Gloss Black the same as the exteriour or paint it the dark grey to black color that the dash was painted (hopefully it's one of the codes listed above). Do most people paint all the interior the same color as the exterior or do most people follow the "interior paint codes"? Thanks for your input!
I just painted the dash for my crewcab. I did it the same color as the truck is going to be but in your case a gloss black dash is going to be to much black. I know someone else who did there dash black with an all black truck and it is just to much black. What is the color of the rest of the inside of your truck?
Here is a picture of my dash after paint. With a black dash pad and black door panels it should compliment it good.
With some of the stuff added on, waiting on the glovebox woodgrain.
Ranger429 - the color you used on your dash is really da_ _ close to the original color of my dash. What brand of paint or paint code did you use? The rest of the interior is Black dash pad, black door panels, and the original cardboard headliner was an off white (kinda like a cream color...uuggh) but will probably try to find a headliner color to match the exterior Med. Silver Metallic. I really like your dash especially with that black pad on there!!
Yeah if you have an all black truck and interior the charcoal would look good in there. It is an 82 Chrysler color code AA9 color. I had the cream headliner as well, all brown truck, so I am going to get a custom one done at the upholstery shop.
The Bronco still has the stock dash color, probably what you had.
Ranger, yea that Bronco dash is the same color as my 78 Crew dash was. Thanks for the code that you used - it looks pretty darn close to the original factory color. Why did you use a Chrysler code??? Did you not know the original paint code for the interiour or they didn't match? THere are a couple codes for the '78 interiors for the trucks. I dont' know which one to pick....
I didn't even look for the original code. The crew I'm restoring is all brown (yuck!) and I'm changing the whole thing over to the same gray that I did the dash in. I could probably look thru my color book and see if I could find the original dash color.
The color I used above is from an 82 Chrysler and the color code is AA9. Any paint supply store can cross that into their brand of paint.
Oh wait you asked why? It was the nicest looking gray that I found in my color book.
Here is the correct color chart. The color you want is in the 1st row on the left, 2nd one down. Black metallic color code A4A. Dupont # is 9354. The color chart above does not even list a black metallic.
My scanner does the color chip no justice, it is identical to the color in the dash of my Bronco.
76SCS - thanks but I've already found that information.
Ranger - would the top of the dash (the metal part under the windshield be the same grey color as the front side of the dash or would it be the same gloss black as the exterior color?
