The 351M is a smogged up turd that makes 150 hp if your lucky. And your probably looking at a 4WD so that means when 4WD is engaged your hp is goin to drop even more. You could put in a 400 crank. The 400 is the 351M's big bro. I think pistons have to be swapped as well. Or drop in a 460.

351m/400 can be made better than factory. In the interest of better emissions and attempt at better fuel economy, the compression ratio (8:1ish) is lower and the cam timing is retarded. The Cleveland heads can flow if allowed to. Replacing the cam, intake, opening up exhaust can make for good power. Its a bit tougher to raise the CR although it can be done some with the right pistons and/or heads. The Australians have been using Cleveland heads for many more years than in the US. There are some decent Australian heads (such as 302 Cleveland heads will smaller combustion chambers) as well as Edelbrock and at least one other aftermarket aluminum head. There are aftermarket aluminum intakes and headers. I have a tired 351M in my 4x4 and I may build it up rather than swap motors. It's not the same as my 390 but it shows enough potential that I can envision a respectable engine. Getting a 400 crank/pistons is also a possibility as the block (and rods) is identical.

You shouldn't have a problem if you keep the mud moderate. I love my 400, when you get the money throw a 400 crank, and pistons in there.
