For those of you that are **** retentive as me, what are you using to paint/coat the inner fenders? They are originally galvanized but it went to hell over the years. And now that i just sandblasted all the rust off there is not much galvanize left. I was going to paint them satin black just like th rad support is but i kinda like the original look. So please give me all your opinions and ideas
Someone had the same question a while back. Lots of suggestions in those replies. It was a couple of months back. . . . I think! Might try doing a search.
Brad, the title to the original thread was "inner fender apron." Try searching for that thread. I used Plasti-Kote Rebuilders Cast Finish on mine and thought it looked pretty close.
I did the silver paint thing for years, but got tired of the stains, fading and flaking paint. This last time I went satin black and it looks pretty good. But it depends on what color the exterior is in my opinion, if I painted my truck blue or red I think silver is the way to go. The satin black seems to suit white, black and the browns.
I used this it is a perfect match . When I took the fenders off you could see what the original galvinized piece looked like this stuff was an exact match to my eye .
If you are going to paint the inner fenders make sure to use a self etching primer first. Most paint don't like to stick to galvenized metal very well and will peel after time, my fist ones lasted about a year before they went to hell on me but after I primed them they were no trouble after that. GMC (sorry) had a really nice pewter colour out a couple years back, 2005 I belive that I plan on using on mine, it looks really close to the original .
Well i did the inner fenders tonight. Cam out as good as i think they could of. My hands are covered in the Zinc. They almost look like freshly sand blasted. It is Rustolium cold Zinc

diesel: you used Rustoleum cold zinc? i used the Rustoleum Bright Zinc (80% zinc and 20% aluminum) and they look about the same as yours. Looks like yours has some shiny speckles in it? is it a rough finish or rather smooth?
