Hesitation with 2000 F250
7.3 L 2000 F250
Yesterday I had major hesitation issues, especially when trying to go over 25 mph. The dealer told me it could be the fuel pump or delivery pump because 2 cyclinders did not seem to be getting enough fuel - but that it would cost $1200 to fix!!
Any ideas would be appreciated! Thanks.

Welcome to FTE. How did they come to that determination? Did they pull codes? The pump won't supply six cylinders and not the other two. It will either work, work but weak with low pressure, or not work. Can you give us any more details? Was it warmed up, hot, towing a load, stuff like that? Did it do this more than once and just the one day?

Welcome to FTE.
When does the problem show up? Only at freeway speeds, acceleration, or pulling a load, or all the time?
The fuel pump is around $150 and takes about 20 min to change. If you've got a fuel restriction, there are some modifications you can do to make sure this doesn't happen again for less than $100.
I'd say finding FTE will probably save you about a grand on this. First, when is the last time you changed your fuel filter?

Yesterday was the first time. Not sure how the dealer guys came to that conclusion...but they did inform me that it might not work but they needed to do that before they could do anything else.
It was very hesitant and like I said, it simply would not go over 25 mph (which made my commute in Atlanta very interesting yesterday). I even pulled over a few times to turn it off and back on hoping something would mystically start working again...did not.
Long story short, I made it home and called a tow truck and its sitting on the golden racks at the ford dealer with a guy that is single handedly trying to keep ford out of financial problems!
Any ideas of what I could check? I did have the fuel filter replaced about 15k ago.

Did the engine run like it was missing, or did the check engine light come on?
Turn the key on and open the drain valve at the fuel filter bowl. Observe how strong the stream coming out the drain tube is (should be a strong stream). Then change your filter and try the same trick. 15k is about when the filter is due for a change.
After that you can either plumb in a pressure gauge to watch what your fuel pressure readings are doing, or do some unscientific testing with a couple of buckets of diesel.

I looked in your about me page and it shows that you are in Ga., correct? If I remember correctly, aren't there some folks on here from down in that area that would possibly give a helping hand? I would definitely get my truck away from the dealer that wanted me to spend that kind of money and work from that point forward.

Get your truck outa that dealership. Get it home in your driveway. Start doing what Chris is telling you and we will help you get this thing worked out. I lived in Atlanta for 10 years (1993-2003) and unless a lot has changed in the last 5and half years, there isn't a dealership anyway around there that I would trust my powerstroke to much more than an oil change with.
