2000 Expedition dying issue....

I have a 2000 Expedition that has a few problems...

Sometimes when i start it, the mileage doesnt show up... i know when this happens, that she is about to die.

It always happens when i go to turn around the corner.... i just recently replaced the fuel filter, and that didnt do anything for it.

i have 142 thousand miles on it...

im sorry but i am new.... if you need any more information please ask..

this is a 4.6l V8

XLT

Are you talking about the odometer being dim?

the odometer blacking out just started, the truck has been dying for aobut 5k miles now... like ... if i come to a stop at a light, and go to make a right hand turn, it will either bog down really bad, or fully die......

Also, when i am driving and taking off from the line, it takes a long time to shift right at about 40-45mph - goes really high on the rpms

Hmm, you might want to check into a possible bad TPS.

Throttle position sensor.

It's mounted to the side of the throttle body underneath the plastic shroud on top of the engine.

Part number is TPS245 from your local autozone. Call them and see if they have the part in stock. Should only take a couple minutes to change, but it "might" be held on with torx bolts. Might wanna check that in advance.

Surprised you haven't gottan a check engine light code yet though.

The other thing to check is that the mass air flow sensor connector isn't loose and maybe even try cleaning it. They sell MAF cleaner at autozone as well.

My dakota does the same thing every once in a while at a stop light. It'll just die, and it's only got 45K miles on it. Been to the dealer 5 times and they can't figure it out either.

The shifting after winding up the rpm's definitely sounds like a bad TPS as Alloro said.
The odometer blackout is a common Expy problem-nothing to do with it dying.
Have to fix the TPS first.
