OK awhile back my Hood popped open and busted the hindges. So I completely removed the hood and just drive it this way, here what I have learned
Disclaimer first
Driveing with out body part can be illegel in many states, Check you local laws first.. Ok so I wont get sued now on to what I learned
First, I gained 3.87 MPG without the Hood, this was tracked over 3 months,
Second. Im running almost 25* cooler.
Thrid, I have to pretty up my engine bay now LOL
Also, Running in bad weather has other issues, You MUST make your Ing. sys. water tight, Being stuck on the side of the road sucks.
Hope this may save a few Buck in the pocket of other on Gas prices, here is over $3 once more
May i first say you live in California and you drove with no hood! really, there so on the ball to remove old cars and trucks that i am shocked you went 3 months with no Police pulling you over, and not to step on any toes but people in that state seem really upscale, "my God a vehicle surely can't be driven with out a hood! its not fashionable!" lol lol tell them you have the hood off to save the environment, hence better MPG! lol lol i say good luck with living in California, and i hope you can keep your truck on the road, there kooky laws are threatening the rest of the U.S. and even Canada, luckily no emissions have to be done on 20 year old vehicles so far, in the Province of Ontario,
also interesting findings, also i would assume that rain getting into the intake would be a problem! besides the electrical! and the engine temps sure seem cooler! amazing,
you might start a trend, not only hoods taken off, but dentside owners might start removing tailgates and doors, just to lose some weight! lol lol i bet with no hood or doors or tailgate, you could gain 5 miles to gallon easily!
just imagine removing the bed! lol
or you can forget rust, and lose some weight with out losing body parts, seems expensive, but if i had a another frame and some money laying around i would have some fun,

Ther No laws in California saying a Car or Truck Must have a hood, And with no state safety inspectrions it not bothered. It one of the very few thing they dont freak about here.

Less so of a problem than you might think. I ride my bikes (was a sportster and now a buell) year round. The sporty had an open element filter and has come a turd floater while at work before. Never a cough from it. Have ridden in pouring rain before and never a cough or sputter. It was an oiled style filter so that may be the difference. Buells is semi covered and a dry filter and it is the runs the same.
I run a modded OEM air cleaner assy witha K&N filter, never had a problem with water ingestion. Only real problem I ever had was moister in the Dist cap. some grease fixed that

As was said. This isn't an issue here.
No doors, no hood, no windshield, no floorboards, no problems...
Just as long as it's got running lights, seatbelts if equipped, and wipers. Including license plate lamps...
Just as long as the truck has all of it's smog equipment and doesn't polute the air...
It took some getting used to here in Arizona when i moved. Don't need doors, hoods or beds. or even fenders for that matter. As long as it passes smog it good.
I came from PA where a 50 cent size rust hole in the quarter flunks the vehicle on yearly inspection.
