when i hit the pedal it will start to take off and then just cut out! then after hitting it and letting off a few times it will work and then not and so on... Is it the TPS? and if so why is it my ford dealer is telling me i have to buy the whole pedal???
I heard the same thing re: buying the whole assembly - then someone told me otherwise. When mine went I would put the tranny in gear and press the pedal and then nothing - but the truck would roll back and forth in gear, just no throttle. Try to search some posts, not 100% sure but I think you can clean the sensor and that will correct it sometimes. Good luck.
Here's another thing to look at, make sure your map sensor hose isn't cracked or unhooked, if the map sensor can't see any boost, you'll get the same problem your describing. I made a homemade boost fooler(OBA) and I turned it down to far and on my way home I thought I had the same problem, TPS, turned the dial on the boost fooler to let some air to my map sensor and had my pedal action back.

That's the only way ford sells it
Int'l sells the switch only, although I don't think it will interchange.

Some older models have the ones with the TPS built in until they ran out at the factory. New ones have the TPS that is replaceable. I had to buy the assembly, but I would take it off and have a look at it first to see if anything is damaged.
