Thanx Justz: I have a schematic but not as clear as yours. I'll use it today and let you know Thanx again.

You say you have power at the stop lamp switch, test the following...

You see in the diagram provided there is a Wire marked #810 color Red/Black Stripe. This goes from the brake lamp switch on the pedal to the Turn Signal Switch. Check for power at the turn signal switch with the brake pedal depressed on this wire.

If you DO NOT have power at the turn signal switch, brake pedal depressed, check the wires between the turn signal switch and the stop lamp switch, and check for power at the stop lamp switch #810 and #284.

If you DO have power at the turn signal switch, brake pedal depressed on #810... then continue testing in the following order.

Then check circuts #282 Green Wire and #283 Yellow/Black Stripe wire at the turn signal switch, with the brake pedal depressed.

If you got power on #282 and #283, with the brake pedal depressed you problem is in the wiring going to the rear taillamps/brake lamps.

If you DO NOT have power at #282 and #283 with the brake pedal depressed, at the turn signal switch, your problem is inside the turn signal switch itself and it needs to be replaced.

Hope this helps...

Taking a break is a wise idea.

When you get back to it monday, can you tell me what wire color the Red/Black wire turns into?

That doesn't sound right. Ford used the same Red/Black stripe wire from the brake lamp switch, to the turn signal switches for years. from 1971-1986 etc.. I have the diagrams for 1973-1988 and double checked. It's either a aftermarket switch, or someone installed the wires wrong.

To install a turn signal switch you have to remove the connector from the wires, and feed the wires down the column, and replace the wires in the connector. It's possible someone could have made a mistake, or it's a aftermarket switch with unconventional colors. Definately makes things harder to diagnose.

Will be glad to help more when you return monday.

I'm Back! Well after some more chasing. My findings are this! I'm more confused than before!!! My wires are as follows. At the dir sig switch. I have 1 orange/blue 1 Green 1 white/blue 1 green/white 1 blue/white 1 green/orange 1 blue. At the connecter (Harness) 1 yellow/black 2 red/ black 1 green 1 Blue 2 White/blue 2 Green/white. I've test with test light on everything. Getting al kinds of combinations of light. Schematic states a Green/ red I don't have one? Does the green/orange go to the red/black and does the orange/blue go to the green. I know I should'nt match colors up but, ligt testing has'nt worked out so far. I believe the Sig switch was an aftermarket and the wires are different at this point any HELP is appreciated I really can't afford to take it to a Mechanic moneys tight. Thanx

I'm going to look through my schematics, on some of those colors, and see what I can find out.

Could be tomorrow before I find out.

Hang in there, we can figure it out.

With the help of the 1971 Wiring diagram, I am seeing your problem.

If you look at the connectors of the turn signal switch you will see different numbers on the wires going into and out of the connector. The number referes to the color wire it represents.

Starting in the upper left corner of the Turn signal connector on the main harness side...

#282 = Green
#2 and #49 = White/Blue Stripe
#3 and #50 = Green/White Stripe
Blank on diagram

Now the other side of turn signal connector on the main harness side (Right side) going down.

Blank on diagram
#283 = Yellow/Black Stripe
#810 and #810A = Red/Black Stripe
#44 = Blue

Now we go to the Turn signal Connector, on the turn signal side, plugs into the connector above...

Left side of connector in diagram...

Blank on diagram
#9 = Green/Orange Stripe
#10 = Green/Red Stripe
#44 = Blue

Now the right side of turn signal connector, in diagram

#5 = Orange/Blue Stripe
#2 = White/Blue Stripe
#3 = Green/White stripe
#1 = Blue/Yellow Stripe

Hopefully this is starting to make sence.

So this is the deduction: The wires change color through the connector, From the factory.

#282 Green, turns into, #5 Orange/Blue Stripe (RH Rear turn and Brake)

#2 and #49. White/Blue Stripe stays the same color. (RH Front Turn)

#3 and #50. Green/White Stripe stays the same color. (LH Front Turn)

#283 Yellow/Black stripe turns into #9 Green/Orange stripe (LH Rear Turn And Brake)

#810 and #810A Red/Black stripe turns into #10 Green/Red Stripe (brake lamp feed from stop lamp switch)

#44 Blue stays the same color (From Turn Signal Flasher)

#1 Blue/Yellow Stripe, (Horn Button)

Confirm the above please, and we can move on from there.

Thanks Justiz for the diagram, it is being very valuble!

Note: the replacement switches do not change color like above.

Someone come and help me! I'm not an electrical guy and I have a truck with jacked up wiring issues. I got mystery wires every where. At this point I have no brake lights, tail lights, blinkers, marker lights, back up lights. The only thing that works is my headlights. When i got the truck all the wires out of the steering colum were just hanging. Had a local mechanic hook them back up under the dash, but i'm still no better off. All my fuses are good. I just don't know where to start and i don't even have a dam meter to check anything.
