I thought the squeaking noise might have been related to Bad Stock Auto Hubs (lost 4-wheel drive this past winter), so I replaced them with Warn Premium Hubs from the write at https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/7...s-of-pics.html
The noise is still persisting. It can get loud at times and it's not consistent. I took the wheel off and spun the roter with both hands. It'll just turn a little over 1 full turn. I do hear some scrapping noise when turning rotor. Don't know if that is normal or if the front brakes on the driver's side is a litle stuck in the closed position.
Sounds like the wheel hub bearings from your description. They are sold as a whole unit.
Although it could also be your slide pins in the calipers being stuck and needing grease. The calipers are 2 pc and have slide pins. The guzzle maint site is good for this info it you want to do it yourself, hub replacement or slide pin upgrade or just greasing. http://www.guzzle7pt3.com/index.php
Thanks for the info guys. Last night, it started to have a loud knocking and clanking noise; on and off.
Was driving it into work and the knocking and clanking noise got louder and could even feel the knocking a little bit. So, I turned around to go home and just called AAA to tow it in.
It should be pretty obvious what it is. Lots of how-to's in here.
Had it towed to my brother law's garage. He hasn't quite figure out the knocking noise when I talked to him the other day.
Since I have the front hubs unlocked, the front axle shafts are not turning...but I assume the front diff and front drive shaft shouldn't be turning as well either since it's not in 4-wheel drive and therefore the transfer case has not enaged the front axle shaft?
The knocking/clanking (sp?) noise is quite an interesting issue. I could see hearing this from the front diff if 4-wheel dirve is enabled and I have the front hubs engaged, but they are unlocked and 4-wheel is not engaged.
The problem is that it's not consistent. Before I had it towed, I jacked up the front end and turned the wheels and did not hear/feel the knocking noise.
If it's not consistent that is another story. Let me think about it a bit.
Thanks for the thought. Seems to happen with load on the frontend from what I can think of.
Maybe I'll have him throw it on the lift, engage 4-wheel drive, lock the hubs and run it in place...just a thought in my head to rule out in my head about the front diff...just in case come gears have gone bad and some somehow it gets engage for some unknown reason.
The problem ended up being the hub assembly. It's been replaced and all is good. I'll have to get more details from my brother-in-law on the knocking noise of it.
