Several months ago I decided to buy a diesel truck. I did a lot of research and finally decided on a Ford F-250 with a 7.3l motor. After looking for the last 6 weeks I found what I wanted. I flew down to Texas and bought a 2003 F-250.

When I drove back from Dallas I wanted to set a baseline for future performance mods so I set the cruise control at 65 mph and stayed there for 95% of the trip. Because the tires/wheels weren’t stock I didn’t trust the speedometer/odometer. I used gps and road mileage markers to see how accurate they were. 65 mph indicated was actually 66 mph on the gps. 100 miles on the odometer was actually 103 miles on gps and interstate mileage markers. Sooooo…after correcting for mileage drift, I drove 1285 miles from Dallas, TX to Manassas, VA and used 69.8 gallons of fuel (mostly BP). This calculates to 18.4 mpg. I was pretty happy with the mileage.
There doesn’t appear to be any performance mods on the truck. The exhaust looks like it might be aftermarket but I’m not sure. It is 3.5" in diameter. Can someone tell me if that is stock?
P.S. The truck now has 18,000 miles on the odometer. It was owned by a 75 year old man who used it several times a year to pull a 5th wheel.
Sounds like a pretty good deal man. It is probably stock exhaust of it is 3.5" Does it still have a muffler? Some of the more experienced people will be along to give you some things to check out. I would suggest taking off the intake and checking the fins on the compressor wheel for dusting. It is the stock airbox correct? It sounds like its taken care of though.
Welcome to FTE! I think you will find all the info you need on here. The guys are more than happy to help. Sounds like you got a heck of a deal, with only 18,000 miles that awesome! 3.5" exhaust is stock and like Chris said, check the intake for dusting.
Welcome to FTE. Sounds like a heck of a deal on the rig. Congrats and good luck. Feel free to ask any questions that you may have. We will be more than happy to answer them for you. Also post up a few pics you will learn that we do like pics here.
Sounds good, I'm wondering though if you'd gotten better milleage had you been going 60mph. There are people that say they get better milleage the lower they go. 18 is awesome for a 4wd truck.
congrats on the truck. With only 18,000 miles this truck will last you the rest of your life. Welcome to FTE. Ask any question you have and there will be alot of people to answer
Wow thats a brand new truck you must get us pictures up for us alot and we can tell you if it is stock or modified. So if you don't mindhow much did you pay for that unit?
