Smile New Truck

Several months ago I decided to buy a diesel truck. I did a lot of research and finally decided on a Ford F-250 with a 7.3l motor. After looking for the last 6 weeks I found what I wanted. I flew down to Texas and bought a 2003 F-250.

The details:
Black supercab shortbed
4wd, auto trans
3.73 rearend
18" Moto Metal wheels
Toyo 285/70/18 tires
Captains chairs in black leather
Bushwacker fender flares
tonneau cover
partial foil delete

When I drove back from Dallas I wanted to set a baseline for future performance mods so I set the cruise control at 65 mph and stayed there for 95% of the trip. Because the tires/wheels weren’t stock I didn’t trust the speedometer/odometer. I used gps and road mileage markers to see how accurate they were. 65 mph indicated was actually 66 mph on the gps. 100 miles on the odometer was actually 103 miles on gps and interstate mileage markers. Sooooo…after correcting for mileage drift, I drove 1285 miles from Dallas, TX to Manassas, VA and used 69.8 gallons of fuel (mostly BP). This calculates to 18.4 mpg. I was pretty happy with the mileage.

There doesn’t appear to be any performance mods on the truck. The exhaust looks like it might be aftermarket but I’m not sure. It is 3.5" in diameter. Can someone tell me if that is stock?

P.S. The truck now has 18,000 miles on the odometer. It was owned by a 75 year old man who used it several times a year to pull a 5th wheel.

Congrats And Welcome!

18,000 miles is AMAZING! Sounds like a really nice truck! Yes 3.5" is stock for the exhaust.

You should take some pics for us! Just make your self a webshots account and link them here.

Sounds like a pretty good deal man. It is probably stock exhaust of it is 3.5" Does it still have a muffler? Some of the more experienced people will be along to give you some things to check out. I would suggest taking off the intake and checking the fins on the compressor wheel for dusting. It is the stock airbox correct? It sounds like its taken care of though.

EDIT: I forgot, welcome to FTE!

without pictures!!!

Welcome to FTE and congrats on the new truck!

Sounds like your mileage is great. I think with 285's my speedometer was actually more accurate than the stock 265's.

Sounds good, I'm wondering though if you'd gotten better milleage had you been going 60mph. There are people that say they get better milleage the lower they go. 18 is awesome for a 4wd truck.

How did you find this truck? That is quite a way to go for a truck but definitely well worth it.

Yeah, we need some pics.
