My IDI mechanic and friend passed away
My mechanic friend who sold me the engine for my truck passed away yesterday. He also installed the Turbo on my truck this spring and did several little repairs for me.
About a month ago he went to the doctor complaining of severe stomach pains, he was told he had a hernia, so they gave him a hernia operation. A few days later his bowells ruptured, he had been in ICU since then. This all happened after I left florida, and I just got a call today.

He had 15 or 20 IDI engines all rebuilt and on engine stands ready to go. When he rebuilt an engine it was test run (I believe) 10 or 20 hours before it went into the warehouse. I have no idea what will happen to all his test equipment and parts. I guess his wife will have an auction. He charged 3500.00 for a rebuilt engine.

Maybe you should help her out and list his engines, parts and equipment that she wants to sell in the classifieds here on FTE.
That might help out someone here and her as well.
Just trying to make the best of a bad thing.
Please do tell her we are sorry for her loss, we like anyone that liked the IDI engine even though we never new him personally.
Anyone who like the IDI is OK in my book.

Dave I would love to do that, but I'm 1800 miles away and I'm sure everything will be take care of quickly.
He also worked on power stroke engines and did a lot of work. He was 76 yo, I think. He was not a wealthy man, and if she could sell those engines for a good price, it would help her. I have never met her.

I think he had a rough life. He was a Frenchman, raised in Austria, and migrated to the USA. He was a certified aircraft mechanic and last worked on Boeing 707's. I suspect he was not a good investor as he rented his shop and his house. Neither are very big. I only met George, when I bought my old worn out IDI. He came over to my shop and looked it over and I bought an engine from him. I have never been able to understand why he sold me a 6.9 instead of the 7.3 i asked him for. He said my engine came out of an 88 international school bus, but it is definately a 6.9. At first I was a little upset, but after hearing about cav itation issues, I figured it was no big deal. He always said I should never run my engine above 2200 rpm for extended periods. (something posters here disagree with). Anyway, I liked the guy and he always took my truck in and worked on it right away. I suppose none of us are perfect.
