I'm contemplating the idea of converting to a floor shifter in my 1993 F150, and was wondering if anyone else has done this. My main concern is with the old column selector after the swap. I plan to either 1)remove it totally from the steering column, or 2)cut it off. In either case, I will be replacing the steering column cover with one from a manual equiped truck to make it all nice and neat.
Is there switches or sensors that I'm going to have to deal with (e.i. neutral or park sensors) in the steering column? I know on most older transmissions these are at the trans. itself, but I'm not all that familiar with the E40D. Any advice/suggestions would be of great assistance.
Have another question. Anyone know what the difference is between the AOD and AODE transmissions used in the Mustangs? And does the AODE have a similar push-button OD selector like the E4OD?
youcan check out LOKAR or GENNIE SHIFTER. they both offer shifters that work for floor mount. you can also check the classifieds and recycling yards for car floor mounts, but these will be shorter.
You're stang should have a AODE trans. in it. I'm still waiting to hear back from B&M to see if the shifters they make for that trans will work with my E4OD.

Thus, if my understanding is correct, the AOD is a modified C-6, the AOD with E is electronically controlled (thus the "E") and is not the same design. Sorry, haven't seen any listed for them.

According to them, any 3-spd automatic shifter will work with the E4OD, but a custom cable mount bracket may need to be fabricated. As I suspected, there's no need to get a 4-spd shifter as the OD is completely controlled electronicly.
Now the only question that remains is do I make my center console out of wood, or mold it in fiberglass?? Decisions decisions......
