Hi all. Its a nice 111 degrees here in Phoenix today.
My f250 which i use once or twice a month had a pain getting started on some errands today. After 10 to 15 start attempts it would start but showed no signs of running on other crank attempts. When it started it seemed to run fine.
No codes.
I put a fuel pressure gauge on and it's always fine start or not (new fuel pump less than a year ago).
I disconnected plug #1 coil and put a timing light there. When it wont start the cylinder is flashing same as when it is a running and I get a healthy start.
I replaced the idle air control (IAC) valve about 2 years ago (or literally about 300 miles ago) and that seemed to back then give me similar no code hard starts. When i replaced it I recall it appeared oem on 185k miles and had much black carbon in the passage way. The new one is still bright and shiny from the outside but i havenet touched it yet.
What would you check or do next? Do i shotgun and blame the IAC again?
I did the plugs once about 4 years ago , and one of the coil packs 3 years ago when it threw a code. Otherwise air filters, and oil changes. Is there any timing to check or adjust?
If I understand correct, you are saying it is just not starting. But it is cranking...correct?
I had a like problem on another vehicle here in Texas during one of those extreem summers. I ended up replacing the battery and everything worked just as designed. Extreem heat can do some weird things with the battery.
Good Luck,
How about either fuel filter and or gas cap. If the gas cap is bad, maybe it is causing a temporary vapor lock in the fuel system?
Of course I'm guessing at this point.
Good luck,
