The Ranger is now in the great junkyard in the sky....Well, okay, Fresno. Since we are moving in 3 weeks, and we need a washer and dryer more than we need a lawn ornament I have decided to call the local Pick-n-Pull and have it hauled away. The price of metal must have fallen along with the economy because I only received $136 for it. I received $220 for the F250 and it was burned to a crisp when they picked it up. Even received $180 for the '89 Buick Skylark I had. The Ranger was in better shape the both of those vehicles, and I got the least amount for it. They would have given me $181 for it had I been able to drive it down to them (They picked up the Buick and F250 also) but it wouldn't stay running long enough to chance that drive.
Anyway, if all goes well, and the creeks don't rise, I should not be car free very long. My neighbor still insists he will sell me his '94 Dodge Intrepid ES when he gets his '94 Mark VIII finished. He finally converted the rear air bags to springs, and only has to convert the front to springs, and then get new wheels and tires, and he will then let me have the Dodge and make monthly payments on it. He has been telling me this for months so I will believe it when it happens. I am sure he will do it, it is just the "when" I am unsure about.
Anyway, the recession can't last forever, and I am sure the job market will improve eventually. When it does, I will look for another Ranger. Only the next one will be a '92 with the 4.0 liter V6, or maybe a 302 conversion!
I vote for a 302 conversion or a Cummins 4BT Ranger.
Prices for most metals has really dropped in the last few months. Home sales seemed to have picked up though.
Yeah, I prefer the size of the Ranger over a full size truck unless I am putting a camper on it. Then give me a F250 anytime. I would love to find a cheap Ranger with the 302 in it, but most likely I will get a V6 Ranger first, and then pay my neighbor's son to do the conversion. This way I can buy the parts I need when I can afford them, and when I have everything I need, pay him for the labor.
I like the style of the '89-92 Rangers the best. So when I start looking for one, I will look for that era. I prefer the 92 year, but may have to settle for a nearlier one. Not sure exactly when the 4.0 was an option for them but I know it was available in '92. If I can find a 302 conversion in a '92 that would be great. But so far, the only converted ones I have seen have been 1st gens. And they were way out of my price range.
Yeah, that is true, and to be honest, I am sure the 4.0 V6 will be plenty of power for me. If not, there are always mods I can do to that to improve HP and still keep it legal.
