What's y'all's preference in trucks? Are we just going for as new as possible? Gasser/ Diesel? Old enuf to not smog it? New enuf to still have AC and power steering? Old with a newer gasser or diesel? This is not an "it's me dream to have this ultra fabulous rig". I mean, what would you do on your current wages.

Depends on how you are going to use it. If I am going to be putting tons of miles in areas where reliability could be a concern, then go new. If you are hauling stuff locally, and don't want to mess up a pretty new truck, then go old.
Another thing to consider is fuel economy. The newer trucks and or newer engines may have more power and better mpg. I am sure though with great tuning, older engines can improve on this as well.

Honestly, I don't use my truck for much, most of my commute is done with my 50mpg ninja. The truck is used to haul trash, get firewood for my parents, and parking somewhere long term so we don't have to park the new car out there. I have a supercrew, but no one ever sits in the back, a 6 seater, but no one ever sits in the middle front, so on and so forth. I could do without a truck right now, and not miss it.
But if I wrecked my truck, and insurance would pay it out, I think I'd opt for a diesel instead of gas even though I don't haul much. It'd be another 4x4, and I'd still want to get a supercrew. Only difference (besides the diesel engine) would be that i'd also look to get a manual transmission if possible. I don't need the extra seats, I don't need the towing capacity, heck, I don't even need a truck. But I'd still get one anyways.

I'm thinkin it would really be nice to have a Super Crew, but I dont want the payments. I'm liking my 67 F100 even more as this smog & registration mess the State is implementing just keeps making it harder to own anything. I dont have to smog, registration is about $75 a year, and insurance is dirt cheap. I'm not too fond of a 12mpg 6 popper, but it runs real good. If I slip in a Cummins 4BT, then I could have around 28 mpg, and could use the saved gas money to drive it more. A few updated parts like disc brakes & power steering would really help too.

I like my SuperCrew even though I don't need the extra seats any more. I like the A/C, power steering, power door locks, power windows, power brakes, and other stuff. The thing is that I can't really tinker with the newer truck. Yup, it's reliable. Nope, there's no carb to rebuild.
The '73 highboy is still parked along side the house. It doesn't get used. I should probably find someone that will enjoy it more.
