03 V10 crate engine..
one of the points the guy who sold me the truck mentioned but had no acutal docs/paperwork to back up was the vehicle had apparnetly had a brand NEW crate engine installed just previous to his buying the vehicle.. what he was told was the original owner had melted a piston, and the damage was bad enuf to make a rebuild impossible. now wether it was a short block or a entire engine replacement i dont know.
it also apparently had the tranny fully rebuild/serviced while the engine was being swapped..
i do have the Oasis report showing the trucks original engine block number.. anyone know were to find the engine number stamping ???
the way the truck drives and runs leads me to believe the engine must have been replaced because with 194000Miles on the clock the truck drives like new..
starts at the first hint of cranking it over, sounds tight, NO leaks and the entire engine bay is clean clean clean.. but not with that freshly greased/shiny look detailers love to shower engines with..
secondly i can never seem to remeber what years of the V10's were liable to have been plug poppers..
i prevouisly had a 99 2wd V10, that was fantastic in terms of performance and relaibility..
hope this 03 4x4 is equaly so...
lastly i think i remember reading in a thread somewhere about disconnecting the battery and resetting the PCM for a new owner..if this is possible how exactly are the steps done..
theres no doubt i drive this truck different than the guy before me as he used the truck to pull a HUGE 5th wheel TT.. i dont ever expect to use anything cept the truck bed for hauling..
so in closing the engine has about 15K miles on it since the "engine swap" if it in fact happened.. im thinking of doing the fuel/air filters just for peice of mind but im leary about doing plugs first cuz the engine (if new) shouldnt need plugs yet and secondly im worried about having a plug problem pop up so to speak, haahaha...
p.s. i also need to do the drivers side upper/lower balljoints i think due to a solid clunk from that side sometimes over big bumps..not always but enuf to make me wonder.. odd part is the passenger side appears to have been done as both ball joints over on that side have zerg fittings.. ( who does only 1 side of a axle ???)

anyways if anyone has any insite to share ima say thx in advance..
p.s. ive got no pics of my new truck yet.. but once i get teh new tires (moving up to 35" AT's) ill def get soem uploaded...
truck is to nice not to share pics of it..
'99-'02 were the troubled years for plug blowout on the V10 2v. In '03-'04 more threads were added to the head...and the plug blowout isn't much of an issue...if the proper procedure is followed. Do a search on the procedure...and you will find tons of info.

Disconnect the NEG (-) cable from the battery. Then turn on the head Light switch...which will help drain any residual from the system. Keep the NEG cable disconnected between 15-30 minutes.
Turn off the head light switch...and then reconnect the NEG battery cable. Now allow your PCM to learn your driving habits. First...drive a minimum of 10 minutes on open road (Freeway or highway). Then...drive a minimum of 20 minutes in the City (stop and go). After that...you should be good to go.
Don't forget to program the PCM with the new tire size. A FORD dealership can do it or you can buy a programmer. But without the proper tire size recorded in the PCM...you will get false readings on the odometer. Plus...your 4R100 tranny might start shifting hard (funny).
Hope this helps...and Good luck...

Just search for the MAF and there are a lot of threads about cleaning on it. I also cleaned out the throttle body while I did mine, and now have a better response out of the engine. I did the plugs earlier in the summer, and like many others have had no problems yet. Just followed the instructions, again from this site and all is well.
Sorry I don't have any of the links save or I would add them on. Just do a search and many come up.
How long have you had the truck now? You can look under this page Welcome to guzzle's Ford PSD Web Page and use to do some maintenance.
ima go outside and see what my valvecover says.
but i suspect it'll prolyl list the original number...
p.s. what size tire will Ford be able to adjust the PCM up to ???
also what is a "Ford driving cycle reset " ? is that something u have to have the dealer do !
thx for the advise so far.. dam this site is full of good info/people..
think i'll step up and pay for the membership.. as far as the free Tee, would that be shipped to Canada by chance or only for US address's ?
The Ford driving cycle reset is what I posted about having the PCM relearn your driving style...so it is up to the Owner.

on the pcm reprogram, can they set it for 35" tires on an 01 excursion or is it only on the newer models?
(just kidding)YES...your '01 Ex should be able to have the tire size increased on the PCM for 35" tires. Hope that helps...
