O K guys guess it's my turn. I have my own ideas but want yours without me polluting yours.
Happened once before about 2 months ago. Happened again this morning. Outside temp about 70 degrees and 1st start of the morning. Turn key and the truck turns over normal, good rotation but no start after cranking for 5 to 7 seconds. Let off key for 3 to 5 seconds, hit key again and it fires right up. Starts normal the rest of the day and if history repeats itself will probably start normal again for a month or two. All maintenance on this truck is annally kept up. No codes.
Thanks Pete, good suggestions, I am going to see how many replies I get and see what the majority consesus is. Of course it will probably be the one off odd ball item causing it. Dealership has 2 other trucks in right now that have same symptoms and nothing is showing up after 3 days of testing on them. They are a good dealer with 4 certed diesel techs.
If I don't get to the solution by next month it will probably show to be a no brainer when I'm in the Sierras and needing a 200 mile tow for the truck and 5er. lol
i hope it wont come to this, but if you dont find it just buy ICP and IPR and keep it in the tool box with the tools needed to change either one of them....
The most common things i run into are a failed snap to connector, failed pump seal ,dummy plug seal in the high pressure oil rail.some times u see a fuel injector rail seal blow out or a oil pressure regulator stick in the bypass position and dump oil back into the oil pan.thats all i can come up with.the sensor and oil pressre regulator soilnoid do fail to..my 2 cents

well if he is having intermitent issues, than it cannot be any seals blown out for sure, cause it would be a dead truck- no start.
so its a sticking issue, and my money is on IPR since if its stuck in open position will not build HPO and in sequence wont fire injectors.
and yeah that snap to connect is an issue. thanks for pointing that out.
At 1st I was leaning towards stc fitting but the more I think about it, logically it wouldn't be the 1st start of the day when the oil is its thickest. Would think it would be more prevalent after warm up.

I would lean towords an electrical issue my 2 cents.FICM going south maybe, are the other two trucks in the shop 05s.I have a TSB on my other computer that has the 05 motors with strange issues that relate to ficm codes and a updated flash, but am a 1000 miles from it so can't post it to see if your issues fit the TSB.
