I am looking at a 2003 6.0 Excursion with 163,000 for a friend, I know nothing about the 6.0's do I need to worry about the early year model 6.0's like the propaganda says, I am pretty handy and can replace injectors and everything less complicated in the 7.3's.....thanks in advance for your opinions
IMO - you should have some $$'s set aside for head studs and an EGR system delete if you buy an early model 6.0L. Sme folks have never needed them, but if you are buying a used vehicle, you do not know how it was treated or maintained.
Head studs? Can you replace them in the truck or do you need to pull the motor... I will search the EGR delete, but if those are the only issues that doesn't sound like much....?
Edit: OK answered my own question via search, still what do you guys think about the truck, "runs good" for 12500?

Motor in or out is subject to opinion. The studs can be done without removing the cab or motor but torqing the studs down to 245 lbs with the motor in the engine compartment is not something I would would like to do.Plus you have to do all the related work in the confines of a very tight work area.Cab off or motor out will give you the best finished job IMHO.
Thanks Brickie, I would probably have Cale at BTS do that kind of work, its beyond my level.....any thoughts on the truck deal itself, would you guys knowing what you do shy away for jump on that deal?
