hi. i just bought a 63 f250 4x4 with a 292 and a 4sp. i'll be starting on the mechanical side of things first inorder to get it dependable enough for occasional street use. was wondering how hard it will be to get engine/tarnsmission/driveline parts and brakes etc for the old truck. what is the hardest to find new parts for?. will the engine and tranny be difficult.
I don't have a 4X4 (yet) so I can't speak to parts for that part of your truck, but the other things are pretty readily available. You'd be surprised at how many of the old truck parts are carried by (or can be gotten within a couple of days) by your local NAPA store.
Tons of places online and site members are also a source for used parts. Welcome from Louisiana.
thanks gritsngumbo for the welcome and the reply. glad to hear i'm pbly ok on parts. i have started researching a bit on the forum and read in a post that the 4sp manual is a bit obsolete. i did call the local parts store and my local shop. they both told me same thing you did, not really a pblm.
good luck finding a 4x4. shouldn't be to hard as they're out there. mines rusty as heck but hey thats why god created 110v wire welders.

Welcome to FTE
If you need parts, just ask.
What I do when someone is looking for something, is...
I look up the part numbers in the appropriate FORD parts catalog, search for the numbers on the net, then post the info.
It doesn't cost you anything, either.
I can also decode your VIN, and all the codes on the Warranty Plate.
If...for example, you need all the rubber motor/trans mounts, all are available...at obsolete parts vendors.
Some Ford Dealers have obsolete parts. I also have access to this info, as I can search EVERY FoMoCo Dealers parts inventory.
thanks numberdummy. i will be taking you up on your offer i'm sure. the truck should arrive sometime next week (friend is picking it up for me). i'll post a couple pics and hit you up to run the vin. the parts cabability you have is nice to know also, sounds like it will be relatively easy to come up with most stuff.
i just noticed- gritsngumbo does have quite a collection. a 61 would be a nice addition.

The Big Dummy's collection of old rolling piles of misery:
Bill, I wasn't aware you still had some Packards. A friend of a friend has a nice '29 Touring here on Vancouver Island. He also has an '03 Holley, and a Stanley among others. Those 20s and 30s Packards were incredible. Anyhoo, thought you might be interested in this site, there was a Bentley club through here a couple weeks ago, mostly W.O.s from all over the world on a tour to through BC and Alaska. All museum quality cars, quite a site to see, I was fortunate enough to meet some of them and see the cars up close when they stopped to see my friend's collection. Even a supercharged Bentley that had run Lemans. Wealthy people making good use of their money, IMHO. Those cars were way ahead of their time. http://www.zgraphs.smugmug.com/

Thanks for the comment, but as you can see my modest "collection" pales in comparison to some others, but I'm very proud of what I've been able to acquire (knowledge and trucks) in a few short years.
i bet we both may be surprised what that ford tractor sign will bring on someplace like ebay(or scarebay as some call it). anyway mabe there is one to be had on ebay, seems everything is for sale there.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised as I collect porcelain and neon signs.
I've seen the large Ford V8 porcelian & neon dealership signs from the 1930's sell for TWENTY GRAND plus.
One small neon sign that hung in showroom windows that sez 6 or V8 (1941) on it, went for FIVE GRAND recently.
well i have to admit i'm surprised they go for THAT much. geez i think i'll start digging around in that old barn of mine. i did give my brother a 1940's john deere calender a couple years ago. maybe i better ask for it back.
