wreckinball, i read on here not to cut that plate because it stops water from getting into the engine. also that it isnt really a restriction. You could cut the soup bowl out but the performance for that is debatable just search.
I might try wrapping my intake my engine ran better with it over stock so insulating it should be better.

i thik i cut the plate your talking about i havent had no trouble and i drive in rain all the time with my ram-air intake
I used a piece of 4" exhaust pipe to make my inlet. I didn't do anything with the diverter in the air cleaner, but I did cut out the restriction in the bottom of my air cleaner. Most have a soup bowl, mine did not, it had the small hole in the bottom of the air cleaner base. I made the hole the same size as the intake, and that helped immensely, then the larger exhaust and intake didn't hurt anything either...
Dave, do you have a screen out in front of your intake? I put a perforated screen sheet a few inches in front of mine to help with large snow and bugs. Seems to work pretty good.
