i am thinking about putting a a transmission temp gauge in. i was wondering how hard it is to put in. What lines would go to the trans and if i need to tap into the trans. There are two gauge types, mechanical and electrical and both have different ways of getting installed. Wondering which one would be better
An electrical gauge will be easier to install. For either type, you will have to remove the trans. pan and drill a hole in it to mount your sending unit. From here, you'll just have to run your wires back up to where you mount the gauge.
With a mechanical gauge, you'd run small tubing from the sender to the gauge which would contain tranny fluid. Hope this helps.
You could always install remote tranny filter which has provisions for a temp guage on it. Summit Racing is where I got the kit. Perma-cool sells two kits, the Standard and deluxe, the deluxe includes a gauge. I personally bought the Standard kit and bough an Autometer Gauge, so that all my gauges would match. Here is perma-cools link to a description of the kits:
I basically have been dealing with Summit Racing for about 8 years now, they are awesome to say the least, free shipping, $8 dollar 2nd day. Excellent product inventory, excellent paper catalog, good website. Be warned though.. once you get a catalog... you start to get the fever as your brouse through the catalog.. and spend more money....
Good Luck
