Hey guys, I'm thinking about buying a '98 Expedition with a little over 100,000 miles on it. What problems should I look for other than the usual stuff like leaks, bodywork, etc. I found a real nice Eddie Bauer 5.4, 4X4 with the towing package and all. I wanted some input from the guys that drive them before I make the purchase.
Alright, I bought one today even though I didn't get any responses to this post. It is a '98 EB, 4X4 with the towing package. My question is; does the trailer connector already have the brakes wired in or do I still have to add the brake controller and wiring. It has the stock connector that comes with the towing package.
My '03 has the built-in plugs at the hitch, but an electric brake controller must be added to control trailer brakes. The truck has a pre-wired socket under the dash for a simple plug-n-play brake controller installation in the future; since my '94 F-150 w/trailer package had the same under-dash plug arrangement, I'm guessing the last generation Expy has it, too.
My '98 Expedition came with the towing package, so I already have the 7-pin connector at the rear. I also have the 6-pin connector under the dash for the brake controller to plug into. I have found the connector i need to buy to connect my aftermarket brake controller to the 6-pin connector under the dash. Do I have to install anything else? This is the first mention I've heard as far as adding relays and such. I was thinking that if I found the right connectors, all I had to do was plug everything together. This is the first time I've used electric trailer brakes, so forgive the lack of knowledge. All of your comments help a lot.
