i always take a med size craftsman tool set , make sure i have a dependable spare not weather cracked or flat, and some antifreeze and jumpercables, tire iron, jack, thats pretty much it for me.

haha yeah i am still trying to find a GM rim to complete my set. LMAO!! i dont carry a spare currently but i have so much road hazard warranty and protection they will take care of everything no matter where i am. I love USAA insurance
GM wheels may not fit!!! I ran into this once, I got a flat on the front and my spare was a GM wheel, it slid on the studs fine but it wouldn't clear the hub - had to pull one of the rear wheels and plop that on the front till I got to a tire shop that repaired the bad tire.
How about an extra IP? Do these break often? Besides the fuel filter clogging seems like not having one of these could strand you?
One of the threads on the list was from a member that was stranded because of the pump....
I also keep a large 3/4" drive breaker bar and socket... My lug nuts don't go on and off easy, would hate to try to change the tire with stock lug wrench.
believe it or not the GM rims fit just fine, i had the tire mech check and it was indeed the 8x6.5" just like our beasts. the newer ones are 8x170(post 1998) and they will not fit. Since i already have 4, they will fit, just need to complete the set.
As for the spare ip, i would say that only if you are making a cross country trip and only if the ip is older. they do fail but i wouldnt keep a spare for daily driving. Now if i came across one i would just for fun!!
Not all GM wheels will fit.
The bolt pattern is not the problem, 6.5 x 8 for both as far as lug pattern goes.
But not all GM wheels will fit over the axle on the rear or the hub shoulder on the front.
You really have to be careful and make sure the wheel is seated against the hub if you try GM wheels.
Best plan there, if it won't fit over the rear axle hub, it won't fit the front right either.
