I have a 78 F150 with a bad 351M. I got a good deal on a 351C and now have the task of changing the trans. The guy who had the motor offered me the trans also, it is an auto with a transfer case out of a Bronco. I need to know if I can take the transfer case off and use the trans in a 2WD. I don't know s**t about transmissions or 4x4s. Any help would be appreciated.

Buster, yes you can use the 4wd trans on a 2wd, but you will need to change the output shaft and tail housing. The ones on your old tranny should be fine but it is a couple hours work to swap it over. I find it very worth it to have a trans shop change the shaft for you. Then you can do the tail housing and finish up. DF
