pics of my new 76
Well I figured it was worthy of another new thread I offered him 1300 and got it. heres some pics i just took. I have decided to swap in my built 400 until i can afford to build a 521. Has anyone swapped a 390 to a 400? What all do i need? The 400 is in a 78 4x4 right now. Can I use the 390 perches and the 400 motor mounts? Or will i need perches also? If so will the perches off the 78 4x4 work? I hope its that simple if so i already have everything i need. any ideas would be appreciated. I am gonna ditch the fomoco hubcaps for some steel wheels that i am painting gloss black. Also whats the best way to lower these 2wd trucks just a bit to give it a little meaner stance? the wheels im using are 15x8 what tire sizes are yall running on your 2wd's to get a little lower stance??

These are pictures of my 76 F100 2wd when it had towers for 302/351M/400.
The perches for 300/360/390 are different. The holes for both were already drilled in my frame/crossmember. The 300/360/390 perch locates the motor mount a bit forward of the the 302/351M/400.

I used a 302 with these perches. I had a 79 F150 2wd that had a stock 302 in it, and it looked the same. I had swapped out a 300 and 3sp manual, and swapped in a 302 with a long tail C6 that probably had come from a van. I had to have a custom driveline made and relocate my transmission crossmember which wasn't very hard. When I got the perches from a truck specialty wrecking yard, it was labelled 302/351/400. I've also seen forum postings that agree. You might want to confirm with number dummy. I don't need them anymore and would be willing to sell them. I have no lack of 390 parts as I have a spare engine in my garage waiting to be rebuilt. Now that I have a 79 F150 4x4, I see that the engine towers in the 4x4 frame are totally different than the 2wd. I have the opposite problem, I would like to put a 390 where my 351M is in the 4x4. If I can use the 67-76 FE engine stands, then I need a rear sump oil pan and oil pickup for my 390 as well as another FE bellhousing.

the 390 is tired... the 400 has less than 2000 miles on it, fresh .040 bore, balanced, arp bolts, TMi pistons(9.5:1), comp xe262h, roller rockers, should be around 350 hp.

1969/79 F100 & 1975/79 F150 302 perches are the exact same parts as 1977/79 351M/400 2WD perches.
1973/79 F100/350 460: The perches used with the 460 are 460 only.
Econoline perches will not work in F100/350's, regardless of what size the engine is.
That's a good price for this truck, especially when one considers it's located in the Mid-West.
However...out here in LA LA Land, trucks just like this can be bought a FOR LESS!
The demand is slight and there's 1000's still around, because we have no rust issues.

I'll take some more pics of it tomorrow. the console itself is nice and the cupholders work well, the console also houses 3 gauges, 2 of which dont work and the center one is a digital tach which i think is lame so i will be changing that stuff out. The previous owner must have really liked this truck.
