Paint schemes?
Paint schemes?
Hello all. I have myself a project 71. it is a 4x4. you may have heard of it. I have posted a couple threads i pretty sure. one still on this page and unanswered. but anywho 2 weeks from now I am painting it and would like to see the different schemes of 70's era paint jobs so I can replicate one. I googled and havent really found a lot of pics of actual ones. All just solid colors, I am looking for a 2 color. So show me pics or send me links please!
There was only three different paint schemes. First, was a solid color only. Any of the original Ford Colors were used for this one. Second, there was the truck which was all one color except for the top down over the back of the cab stopping at the belt line just below the rear window. Usually, Wimbleton White was the roof color with almost any of the other colors on the rest of the truck. Third and last, was the two tone "tri-Color" schemes. It was similar to the second one, but with an added bottom portion going all around from the center of the "bump" to the bottom using the same color as what was on the roof. Two different blues or two different greens were sometimes used and I have even seen trucks that were yellow and green together. Pictures of any bumpside will be one of these schemes. Anything beyond these three was not factory done.
White grills............
Any of the 67, 68, or 69's with a steel grill did have white painted grills. They were found on the "Custom" models primarily. These grills are in demand because they can be stripped and chromed. Still, during those years, the basic paint schemes applied.
Ic. Well I will have to search some more too and find some ideas I like. Also, does anybody know if the fender openings, like the arch and stuff, of my 71 is the same as 73 and up? I was looking at some fender flares at work but the oldest they go is a 73.
fordication has it under the vin listing for 1971. why does this site not allow direct linking to it I dont know.

hey 77' those were way cool. I liked the first ones paint job, justn ot sure if I would add the zig zag looking things on the back, but sure liked the hood, I may follow something like that. ANd the strip on the hood of the truck from gran turino was something I had origanally wanted. but that is when I wanted to do a yellow and black theme. not sure if it would go as good with cream and blue.
