PO683 Trouble Code
Hi all,
We've got a 2005 6.0 Dually truck with about 61K miles. Recently threw a code which we read as P0683, glow plug control module.
Not sure if it matters, I don't think so from the five minutes of online research I did, but it's a California truck.
Since this is a company truck, I don't want one of our employees getting stuck somewhere. I did some really quick pricing on a new module, and got a range of about $125 to $250.
My question is, do I need to replace the module to get the code to stay off? And if so, is it something that's easy to get to, or is it a dealer-only thing? We're good mechanics, but with no real diesel-specific experience.
Also, anyone know the cheapest place to get one?
Thank you!

Glowplug module is located on the right valve cover. It has black and green connectors and is held down by two 10mm nuts. I don't know if it can be obtained outside a Ford dealer. It is plug and play, it doesn't have to be programmed.
In California you probably don't need one except to meet emissions and cold start operation, you might get some white smoke and rough running at first but after a few minutes of warm up the glowplugs shut off anyway. It will continue to set check engine light though.
