LAST EDITED ON 26-Jun-01 AT 06:10 PM (EST)[p]I just had the trans serviced at one of the quicky oil change places and they only drained the fluid from the pan, I asked about the torque converter and they said that they add some kind of trans fluid conditioner that transformes the fluid in the converter back to new. This sound a little too good to be true? Should I have it serviced again? and change all the fluid and the filter?
Scott, if all they did was drain the pan, then the old filter is still old. To do this job right, filter needs to be changed, and t-converter needs to be drained/filled also. I know of no "miracle" additive that will transform old, used oils to new. Plus, looking at the band adjustment while you are there is part of a good transmission service.

Thanks wayne, Thats what I thought.About 20 years ago I used to work in a front end and brake shop where we also trani services and oil changes and I remembered that we always took off the pan and changed the filter and converter fluid. I never thought about the bands as that wasen't part of what we did, Guess I will have to take it to a real shop and get it done right.
Hi Wayne,
I just got off the phone with my local Ford dealer and they said that when they do a transmission service that they dont remove the pan or change the filter but they do change the fluid in the torque converter, They said that there are no band adjustments to be made and that everything is done with the computer
( except for the fluid changes) I am still looking at having the filter changed just because I think it would be better.
