Trying to save time I had my tranny fluid changed at the local NAPA auto care center, they attached a device into the fluid line that removes and replaces the fluid without the need to drain the old fluid from the tranny and the torque converter, therefore they didn't drop the pan and change the filter. Anyone heard of this method? How important is changing out the filter? Also, I made a comment about using Mercon not Mercon V, I was told they used a Multi-Vehicle ATF (ATF4). Thanks for any answers/opinions
It's a 4R100 in a 99 F350 PSD, the owners and shop manuals call for Mercon, thats why I raised the question to NAPA on the fluid type they use. I'm looking for some input on this issue just in case......I need to change it out again, have a problem, or heaven forbid go to the stealership and ask them. Wife towed a horse trailer 400 miles without any problems.
