hey guys sorry i've taken so long to reply, i had work and i just got home, anyways thx to everyone that has put their advise in here i really appreciate it. I'll try to answer all the questions.
it's an automatic transmission
i'm not sure on the mileage, the counter only goes to 99,999 and idk how many times it has turned since 1990, haha, but it's coming up on 90,000 again, lol
i'm in south central texas so it's just some hill country nuthin to high above sea level
most of the time i don't really have any smoke come out, if any it's always like white/grey
the 5th wheel is just a 28ft travel trailer. not too sure on the weight
i know alot of ya'lll r sayin it's time for a turbo but before i get a turbo i want to make sure that i've tuned the engine to the best i can with what i have installed right now.
i put a brand new air filter, but i haven't looked at the fuel filter, where is that located at so i can check it out?
oh and idk what the rear end ratio is. where would i be able to find that info? i looked in the manuals in my truck but i didn't see anything. if ya'll just tell me where everything is and how i'm suppoesed to check it then i can do it right now.
Look on the rear diff. cover on the back axle.
on two bolts there should be a tag that says, 3.55, 3.73,4.10,4.30,4.56 or 4.88.
That number is what we want.

Sounds like the timing is retarded with the white/grey smoke. The trailer is probably in the neighborhood of 8-9k lbs. The fuel filter is above the alternator.
If you want to try advancing the timing, loosen the 3 nuts for the IP and rotate the top towards the passenger fender about a dimes width to start (engine is OFF while doing this!). Here's a write up on how to do it. http://www.powerstroke.org/articles/...IDI/Page1.html
am i supposed to see smoke come out doug? if so what color?
Depends on if the pump/fuel is turned up or not. If it is, the smoke should be darker or black if it's really cranked up. If it's white or light grey it's not burning completely which would indicate the timing is retarded. If you don't have any smoke, you're still ok, black smoke is just wasted fuel, but you could turn it up a flat or two and see if you gain any power. Best to do this only if you have a pyro installed, so's you don't melt anything.
hey thx for the info doug. i'm goin out to look at it right now appreciate the help
hey bill it says 3.55 what does that mean?
it means you have gears for the best mpg, worst power.
the higher the number, the better for pulling and the lower the better for mpg on the highway empty or lightly loaded .
ok i read the article about adjusting the fuel injectin pump. as u just said in your last comment about having the pyro installed, the article is also telling me about the pyrometer, is this something that i need or is neccesary to make these adjustments your telling me about?
If you turn the fuel up too much, it's possible to overfuel and melt the pistons if left too long at high temps. If you're just adjusting the timing a pyro isn't needed, it's just nice to have.
